Other Colleagues Along the Way
The life of a singer is not a solitary one. There are many people along the way without whom we simply cannot do our
job. I’d like to acknowledge and thank the following for all their wisdom, help, encouragement and support which kept
me going over the years and which deepened my knowledge and understanding of the music we performed. My
wonderfully patient and long-suffering accompanists: Graham Lilly, now on staff at the Opera de Lyons.
Angela Livingstone, now head of singing at the Welsh College of Music.
Peter Bailey, now music director of Pavilion Opera and a freelance accompanist in London.
Merion Powell, now Chorus master at Nancy having done the same job at La Monnaie in Brussels and also at Nantes.
My utterly inspiring vocal and language coaches:
Alastair Graham, Robert Sutherland, Geoffrey Parsons, Graham Johnston, Paul Hamburger, Robin Bowman, Peter
Gellhorn, Leonard Hancock, Malcolm Martineau, Hester Dickson, Sheila Barlow, Betty Bannerman, Galie Wheen and Tina
They all taught me so much along the way and they have contributed to the person, the singer and the teacher I am
today. As I reflect on these things I am bowled over that my paths have crossed with these truly inspiring people and
wonderful musicians. How lucky was I!
