ASSOCIATION OF TEACHERS OF SINGING (AOTOS)
I am an active member of AOTOS (Association of Teachers of Singing) and, as a young singing teacher in the mid 1990’s, greatly valued their young teacher training programme. At the time my own teacher, Margaret Hyde, was one of the “master” teachers along with many others (Eileen Price and Molly Pietrie to name but a few) and I learned a great deal at these courses. I am now a “pod” leader for Scotland and have hosted events for like-minded teachers who would like professional development , encouragement, friendship and, quite simply, to discuss and share ideas. Ours can be a lonely job so my hope is that these events will encourage each of us as we strive to perfect our teaching and grapple with some of the tricky issues that come into our studios.
To date we have covered such topics as:
*Nicky Jane Kemp: How to prepare a student for ABRSM exams, how they are marked and the new 2018 syllabus.
*Osteopath David Macabe: Anatomy and Physiology and how to enable the body to work freely and efficiently.
* Speech and Language Therapist Moira Little: The developing voice.
Scottish AOTOS “pod” meeting in May 2019.
AOTOS chair, Heidi Pegler came to discuss how we can all be involved with Eurovox 2020 in Edinburgh.
This is a very exciting event to look forward to.
